KC Blog Tournament 2 Day 1
Sunday, resting day
We went to Muping to do a little shopping. We had lunch in the noodle shop. You can watch them make your noodles while you wait for your food. After we ate we walked around a bit and went shopping. I got this really tasty melon from a street vendor. It was a cross between a cantaloupe and a honey dew melon.
We stopped at the bathhouse and got a massage. It was nice but…. A guy in front of me kept hocking loogies and people all around me were smoking. But besides that the massage was really nice. After the bathhouse we went back to the Academy and rested.
Competition day 1
We left the academy at 6 am. And arrived in Yantai around 7. The competition didn’t start until 9. The competitors were practicing and people were setting up. At 9 a few groups did demonstrations and the competition began. Scott found out that he wasn’t going until the afternoon. A few students from the academy went to McDonalds but I didn’t want to eat McDs. Chris, the Belgian guy in my shaolin group, asked if I wanted to go get food. He didn’t want McDonalds either. There was a typhoon last night and it hadn’t stopped raining since. We didn’t have a taxi so we decided to walk around and find food. We walked a block and didn’t find anything. The top half of Chris’ shirt was wet; thank God I had a jacket on.
We decided to get a taxi but realized we didn’t know how to get back to the competition. Chris asked the cab driver to write the address so we could show it to the next taxi driver. We didn’t know where to eat besides McDonalds. Chris asked the taxi to drop us by Walmart so we could look around. We didn’t find any food so we decided to go to KFC.
We went back to the competition and watched the performances. Scott told me he was the last person to perform. The gym was really nasty and dirty. It smelled like pee and cigarettes. In China people spit EVERYWHERE and smoke everywhere. There was a slight haze inside the gym from all the cigarette smoke.
The kids performing were sooooo amazing! They looked like little soldiers. A girl performed with metal nunchucks. She was great! She couldn’t have been older than 12.Another girl performed with the bull whip and I loved it! I want to learn how to use the bull whip. A few kids perfomed the drunken style kung fu and that was pretty neat.
The students from the academy were quite good as well. Everyone got medals and most got gold. Scott didn’t perform until after 4pm, but it was worth the wait. He did his staff form today and did a really good job.
After we went back to the academy had dinner and rested.
